My heart’s bright smile was washed
away,
By a pool of angry tears,
And all the music in my life,
Was silenced by her fears.
And as we talked I let it out,
I said it all that night,
But she didn’t see my heart break,
And I couldn’t see her fright.
I tried again to call her name,
To show her how I felt,
But my last words she would ignore,
Death’s card to me was dealt.
I fought so hard to let it go,
But all I saw was her,
And in the madness of my mind,
She’s all I knew for sure.
Then came a friend so pure and true,
Who fought on my behalf,
And though perhaps he didn’t win,
He gave me hope to last.
